Chris Sutton: Liverpool FC signing is learning on the job but is still great addition
The former Chelsea striker believes Liverpool FC signing Virgl van Dijk will prove a "great addition" to the Reds team
Chris Sutton believes Virgil van Dijk has already proven a fantastic addition to the Liverpool FC team.
The Reds signed the Netherlands international in a club record £75m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton in the January transfer window.
Liverpool FC made Van Dijk the most expensive defender in the world following his big-money move to the Anfield outfit.
The 26-year-old scored a late winner on his Liverpool FC debut to seal a 2-1 win against derby rivals Everton in the FA Cup third round at Anfield.
Van Dijk was guilty of making mistakes against Swansea City and Tottenham Hotspur in his next two Premier League games.
However, the January signing produced a composed performance in Liverpool FC’s 2-0 win against Southampton upon his return to St Mary’s last weekend.
Former Chelsea striker Sutton is impressed with what he has seen from Liverpool FC’s record signing so far.
“He is learning on the job,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“I think Van Dijk is a great bit of business.
“Yes, he has made a couple of errors but he strolled the game [at Southampton].
“He is a magnificent signing. It was an area of concern. He has addressed that.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table in Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge of the Anfield outfit.
The Reds aren’t in Premier League action again until their home clash against West Ham United on 24 February.
