Christian Pulisic should snub a move to Manchester United in favour of a switch to Liverpool or Real Madrid, according to retired American striker Brian McBride.

The Borussia Dortmund forward has been linked with a potential move the Premier League on a regular basis over the past 24 months since his emergence at Westfalenstadion.

Liverpool FC have regularly been touted as an ideal destination for the teenager given Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was responsible for bringing the American to Dortmund before he quit in 2015.

However, their bitter rivals Manchester United are reportedly interested in the attacking midfielder as Jose Mourinho looks to improve his options in the middle of the park in the summer.

Pulisic has also been named as a possible target for La Liga giants Real Madrid, who continue to struggle on the domestic front under Zinedine Zidane.

The teenage playmaker would be an attractive prospect for a top European club given Pulisic would provide an avenue into the lucrative American market.

But former Fulham striker McBride believes Pulisic should turn down a move to Manchester United in favour of a move to either Liverpool FC or Real Madrid.

“Choosing for him a club that would help him develop his style and his skillset is going to be a necessity,” McBride told ESPN, as quoted by the Daily Star.

“When you talk about some of these bigger clubs, they don’t necessarily play the same type of soccer they play in Dortmund.

“The thing that’s always in the back of your mind is the desire to play at one of the biggest clubs – they are monster clubs, all of them are – and the fun of moving to a different club and working through the process of making it there.

“I would make sure the club plays the style of soccer I play. If you’re going to Manchester United, you know you’re not going to be on the ball nearly as much as you are at Liverpool or Real Madrid.

“The exciting part of going to Real Madrid, where every single player on the field around you is world class, it’s a desire you sometimes can’t turn down.

“These are big decisions for you as a player, especially at such a young age. One, he needs to play, which makes him a candidate to stay.

“He’s also in a pretty large sized club with an understanding of the structure, an understanding of the players, an understanding of the style. All those will give you an argument to not leave.

“But as a player, you always want to push the envelope. You always want to make sure you are challenging yourself to the best of your ability to grow as a player. If he feels there are options there, I could see him move.

“He’s too mentally strong and mature (to get lost), in my opinion.”

Pulisic has scored 11 times in 81 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund.
