Steven Gerrard: How Jordan Henderson must step his game up at Liverpool FC
Steven Gerrard delivers his honest verdict on Jordan Henderson's development at Liverpool FC
Steven Gerrard believes that Jordan Henderson can improve his game by taking more risks in a Liverpool FC shirt.
The Liverpool FC captain has been a regular fixture in the first team under Jurgen Klopp this season and has scored one goal and made one assist in 18 Premier League games for the Reds this term.
Henderson helped Liverpool FC claim an impressive 5-0 victory over FC Porto in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday night as they all but booked their place in the quarter-finals.
The former Sunderland midfielder has been known to split opinion amongst Liverpool FC fans.
And although Reds legend Gerrard is a big fan of Henderson, he feels that he could take more risks in his game to improve his performances for Klopp’s men.
Speaking in depth about Henderson to BT Sport on Wednesday night, Gerrard said: “At times I think Jordan plays the easy, safe pass when I think he’s got that little bit more in his locker.
“He can open a defence up. He has got a decent range of passing.
“It’s because he’s an unselfish player. He’s doing a job for the team in this holding position.
“I think he’s at his strongest when he’s in people’s faces and using his power and running ability. He’s got a great energy and he is capable of scoring goals and making assists.”
Liverpool FC are currently in third place in the Premier League table and two points behind second placed Manchester United as they look to better their fourth-placed finish from last season.
The Reds are still searching for their first trophy under Klopp following the German’s appointment at Anfield as Brendan Rodgers’ permanent successor back in October 2015.
