Frank Lampard admits he has been very impressed by Virgil van Dijk's start to life at Liverpool FC
Frank Lampard has admitted that he has been impressed by Virgil van Dijk’s start to life as a Liverpool FC player.
The Netherlands defender signed for the Reds from Southampton in the January transfer window after having been heavily linked with a move to Anfield throughout the summer.
Van Dijk marked his Liverpool FC debut with a goal in the 2-1 FA Cup victory over Everton back in January and he has been a regular fixture in the first team since his move.
The centre-half helped the Reds to keep a clean sheet in their dominant 5-0 victory over FC Porto in the Champions League on Wednesday night as they all but booked their place in the quarter-finals.
And Chelsea legend Lampard has admitted that he has been very impressed by what he has seen from the defender of late since his move from Southampton.
Speaking to BT Sport on Wednesday night, Lampard said: “He’s very good on the ball. He’s self-confident.
“I like his demeanour, I think he’s going to be a great signing. He’s going to get better and better.”
Van Dijk will be expecting to feature for Liverpool FC when the Reds return to Premier League action next weekend with a home clash against West Ham United at Anfield.
The Reds are currently in third place in the Premier League table and just two points behind second-placed Manchester United.
