Rio Ferdinand makes honest admission about Liverpool FC after Porto win
Rio Ferdinand discusses Liverpool FC's impressive 5-0 thrashing of FC Porto in the Champions League
Rio Ferdinand has admitted that no team in the Champions League will want to be drawn against Liverpool FC after their 5-0 thrashing of Porto on Wednesday night.
The Reds were in brilliant attacking form as they all but secured their place in the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition in style.
Sadio Mane netted a hat-trick to add to goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino as the Reds ran riot against the Portuguese side.
Liverpool FC will naturally now already have one eye on their place in the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand was extremely impressed by what he saw from the Reds on Wednesday night and felt that the manner of the victory sent out a warning to the rest of the teams still in the competition.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Ferdinand said: “They confirmed what we already knew. In an attacking sense, they’re a fantastic team, they’re to be feared.
“This really does send out a signal to the other teams.
“They’re going to go through to the next round and there won’t be any team in this competition that will be sitting there feeling comfortable if they got drawn against Liverpool, because attacking-wise, these guys are devastating.”
Liverpool FC now have nine days off to prepare for their next Premier League game – a home clash against West Ham United on 24 February.
The Merseyside outfit are currently in third place in the Premier League table as they chase Champions League qualification for the second season running under Jurgen Klopp.
