Steven Gerrard is confident that Liverpool FC have what it takes to finish in the top four this season and says that is the minimum requirement for the Reds.

The Merseyside outfit are currently in third place in the Premier League table as they chase Champions League qualification for the second season running under Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool FC returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Tuesday night with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

The Reds are set to take on FC Porto in the last 16 of the Champions League later this month as they bid to progress in Europa after having been knocked out of both domestic cup competitions.

And former Liverpool FC midfielder Gerrard feels that the Reds should at least be targeting a top four finish this season as they look enjoy a successful campaign.

Speaking to BT Sport on Tuesday night, Gerrard said: “I think it [a top-four finish] the minimum acceptable in terms of what’s been spent and the players he’s got.

“I think there would be big questions asked if they finished outside the top four.

“I think it’s satisfactory, whether that’s good enough, as a Liverpool ex-player and a fan, I think you’re always searching for more. You want to do better and have longer runs in the cup competitions.”

Liverpool FC, who finished in fourth place last term, are currently preparing for their crunch clash against Tottenham Hotspur in the top flight on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs warmed up for that game in style with an impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester United at Wembley on Wednesday night in the Premier League.
