Steven Gerrard raves about ‘magnet’ Liverpool FC star
Steven Gerrard heaps praise on Virgil van Dijk after his fine form for Liverpool FC this season
Steven Gerrard has heaped praise on Virgil van Dijk following his move to Liverpool FC from Southampton in the January transfer window.
The defender has been a regular fixture in the first team at Anfield following his £75m move to the Merseyside club from Southampton in the January window.
Van Dijk has scored one goal in six games in all competitions for the Reds since his arrival at Anfield and he seems to be gradually getting used to life on Merseyside.
The Dutch centre-half helped Liverpool FC to keep a clean sheet in their 5-0 thrashing of FC Porto in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday night.
And Liverpool FC legend Gerrard seems to have been thrilled by the start Van Dijk has made to life at Anfield since his big-money move to the club.
Speaking on BT Sport, Gerrard said: “He’s a magnet in both boxes. Liverpool have had criticism for [their defending of] set pieces and crosses – and he is a fantastic header of the ball.”
Liverpool FC now have a few days off before turning their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their home clash against West Ham United on Saturday 24 February.
The Reds are currently third in the Premier League table as they chase a top-four finish for the second season running under Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool FC have not won a trophy since Klopp’s appointment in October 2015.
