The Independent is reporting that the Merseyside outfit are “closely monitoring” Lemar’s situation at the French club after the 22-year-old turned down the offer of a new contract with the Ligue 1 side.
The same report claims that Jurgen Klopp was determined to try and bring Lemar to Anfield in the January transfer window following the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.
However, it is stated that the French club were completely unwilling to let the attacker leave the club in the mid-season window.
The story says that it seems “inevitable” that Lemar will indeed leave Monaco at some point, and it is Liverpool FC who appear to be leading the race for his signature.
Arsenal were also heavily linked with a move to sign Lemar last summer but a switch failed to materialise for the French forward.
Lemar has scored two goals and made five assists in 16 Ligue 1 games for Monaco so far this season.
Meanwhile, Liverpool FC are currently preparing for their trip to the south coast to take on Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
