The Liverpool FC legend is happy with Jurgen Klopp despite a lack of silverware in his Reds career so far
Phil Thompson insists he is “more than happy” with Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp.
The former Borussia Dortmund head coach is on course to lead the Reds to successive top-four finishes to secure another season of Champions League football.
Liverpool FC have all but secure their place in the Champions League quarter-finals after the Reds were commanding 5-0 winners against Porto in the first leg of their last-16 clash in Portugal.
The Merseyside outfit haven’t won a trophy under Klopp since the German coach took over the reins from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015.
Liverpool FC lost on penalties to Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley in February 2016 before a 3-1 defeat by Sevilla in the Europa League final in Basel a few months later.
Former Reds captain Thompson is satisfied with Klopp’s performance at Liverpool FC so far despite the lack of silverware.
“I think his values are similar to Guardiola’s and it’s obviously attack first,” Thompson told Sky Sports.
“There’s always got to be a blend and Liverpool haven’t had that as well as Pep has managed, but he has players who get you off your seat with great attacking talents. I think he’s been fantastic and I’m more than happy with him as Liverpool boss.”
Klopp guided Borussia Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles during a five-season spell at Westfalenstadion before he stood down as manager in 2015.
The 50-year-old led Dortmund to the Champions League final at Wembley in 2013 but BVB lost 2-1 to bitter Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Champions League since 2005 when the Reds beat AC Milan on penalties.
