Jamie Redknapp raves about Liverpool FC signing after 2-2 draw with Tottenham
Jamie Redknapp heaps praise on Virgil van Dijk for his performance in Liverpool FC's clash with Tottenham
Jamie Redknapp praised Virgil van Dijk for his strong performance for Liverpool FC in their thrilling 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds took the lead in just the third minute at Anfield when Mohamed Salah found himself through on goal and slotted home a brilliant finish from close range to continue his brilliant form for the Reds.
However, substitute Victor Wanyama fired home a brilliant equaliser in the 80th minute.
Mohamed Salah netted late on to put Liverpool FC 2-1 up after Harry Kane had missed a penalty.
However, the Lilywhites were awarded a second penalty late on and Kane made no mistake this time as he fired home an equaliser late on.
Van Dijk was restored to the starting line-up for the Reds on Merseyside as he continues to get used to life at his new club following his transfer from Southampton at the turn of the year.
And former Liverpool FC midfielder Redknapp was clearly impressed by what he saw from the defender against Spurs on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game, Redknapp said: “I’ve been keeping a close eye on Liverpool’s number four, Virgil van Dijk. He’s been immense.
“I’ve been watching his body language, he’s been brilliant – he’s been leading people and held the line when he’s had to.
“When he’s had the ball he’s been extremely composed. He’s been exceptional.”
Those comments, of course, came before the defender was adjudged to have fouled Lamela for the second penalty kick.
Liverpool FC return to Premier League action next Sunday afternoon when they travel to Southampton.
The Reds are aiming to finish in the top four for the second successive season under Jurgen Klopp.
The Merseyside outfit will take on FC Porto for a place in the quarter-finals starting later this month.
