Jamie Carragher reacts to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s display in Liverpool FC v Tottenham
The Liverpool FC legend believes Trent Alexander-Arnold will become England's first-choice right-back
Jamie Carragher backed Trent Alexander-Arnold to blossom into England’s first-choice right-back after the teenager’s impressive performance in Liverpool FC’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
His compatriot Joe Gomez appeared to have made the right-back berth his own in recent months in the continued absence of England international Nathaniel Clyne, who hasn’t featured in the current campaign.
Gomez, though, was at fault for goals in Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Manchester City and a 1-0 loss to Swansea City in recent weeks, which could have played a part in Jurgen Klopp’s decision to start with Alexander-Arnold for the visit of Spurs.
The 19-year-old full-back impressed on the right side of the Liverpool FC defence as he managed to keep Ben Davies and Dele Alli pegged back throughout most of the Premier League clash.
Alexander-Arnold offered a threat going forward as the England Under-21 international hugged the touchline and provided the Liverpool FC team with much-needed width on Merseyside.
Former Liverpool FC defender Alexander-Arnold backed Alexander-Arnold to establish himself as England’s number one right-back in coming seasons.
“Listen, this lad – I’ve said it before – is going to be a future England full-back,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “He just looks the part.
“He goes forward in a game like this and you can see the quality he possesses.”
Mohamed Salah scored his 20th goal of the Premier League season in the third minute before a dramatic final 10 minutes at Anfield.
Victor Wanyama levelled in the 80th minute with a finish from outside the area before Harry Kane missed a penalty.
Salah appeared to have punished the Spurs striker with an incredible solo effort before Kane levelled in the fourth minute of added time with a controversial equaliser from the penalty spot.
