Steven Gerrard sends direct Liverpool FC message to Emre Can about his future
The Liverpool FC legend opens up about the possibility of Emre Can leaving the Merseyside outfit in the summer
Steven Gerrard has admitted that Emre Can’s potential Liverpool FC exit would be a huge blow to the Anfield side.
The German midfielder’s future at the Merseyside outfit remains up in the air with less than six months remaining on his current Liverpool FC deal.
Can has been linked with a potential move to Serie A giants Juventus at the end of the season when the 24-year-old will be available to sign on a free contract.
Liverpool FC were 3-0 winners against Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night thanks in part to Can’s man of the match performance at the promoted side.
The German star broke the deadlock with a deflected long-range strike before he won a second-half penalty to allow Mohamed Salah to secure a 3-0 win.
Can has scored three goals and has made three assists in 26 appearances in the Champions League and the Premier League in the current campaign.
Former Liverpool FC legend Gerrard, who has tipped Can to leave in the summer, opened up about how the midfielder’s departure would affect the Reds.
“He’ll be a loss. He’s a good player. He’s grown, he’s maturing, he’s getting better and better,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
“Liverpool have made him a better player and Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff are perfect for him. I can’t make decision for Emre Can, but in his shoes I’d be a bit more patient with Liverpool.
“The club and the fans have got a lot of belief in him.”
Liverpool FC signed Can in an £8.75m deal from Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen in the 2014 summer transfer window.
The Reds will take on Portuguese giants FC Porto in the Champions League round of 16 next month.
