Liverpool FC should sign Stoke City star Jack Butland to finally address their weakness in goal, according to Steve Sidwell
Liverpool FC should consider a deal to sign Stoke City shot stopper Jack Butland, according to Steve Sidwell.
The Reds have regularly been linked with a move to sign a new goalkeeper over the past 12 months given the well-documented struggles with Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.
Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp has stuck with Karius as his first-choice goalkeeper over the past few months but the German hasn’t really convinced.
Speculation over the past week has suggested that Liverpool FC could move to sign AS Roma’s Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson in a big-money deal at the end of the season.
The Reds have enjoyed great success raiding AS Roma over the past 12 months following Mohamed Salah’s 30 goals in all competitions after a £39m move last summer.
However, Brighton midfielder Sidwell believes Liverpool FC would do well to consider a potential swoop to sign Stoke shot stopper Butland.
“You have to look at Butland,” Sidwell told The Debate on Sky Sports.
“He is definitely up there.
“If he went to a top club, he could be there for the next eight or ten seasons.”
Liverpool FC are in third place in the Premier League table and two points behind second-placed Manchester United.
The Reds signed Mignolet in a £9m deal from Sunderland in the 2013 summer transfer window under Brendan Rodgers.
Liverpool FC boss Klopp snapped up Karius in a £4.7m deal from Bundesliga outfit Mainz.
