Dennis Wise names two players who could stop Liverpool FC winning silverware
The Chelsea FC legend believes Liverpool FC will struggle to win trophies with Loris Karius and Dejan Lovren
Dennis Wise believes Liverpool FC will struggle to win silverware with Loris Karius and Dejan Lovren in the Reds team.
The Merseyside outfit moved one step closer to the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday night thanks to Liverpool FC’s 5-0 win over Porto in the first leg of their last-16 clash in Portugal.
Former Man City shot stopper Karius impressed in the Reds goal in the Champions League clash to help Liverpool FC leave Portugal with a clean sheet ahead of the return leg at Anfield on Tuesday 6 March.
Lovren played a role in Sadio Mane’s opening goal after the Croatia international won the ball high up the pitch as he started the European clash alongside club record signing Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool FC’s defence has been regularly criticised since Jurgen Klopp took over the reins from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015.
The Reds have conceded 31 goals in 27 games in the Premier League to prompt the German head coach to spend a world record fee for a defender on Van Dijk.
Former Chelsea FC midfielder Wise believes the Reds will struggle to win top trophies with Karius and Lovren in the team.
Asked whether Liverpool FC can achieve success with Karius in goal, Wise told Sky Sports:
“I am not 100 per cent sure. I look at the back four. I am not convinced about Lovren.
“Matip is slightly better. Certain positions at the back is where I would be a little bit worried.”
Liverpool FC are in third place in the Premier League table.
