Pat Nevin explains what Liverpool FC need to improve under Jurgen Klopp
The Chelsea FC legend believes Liverpool FC need to improve their squad depth under Jurgen Klopp
Pat Nevin has warned Jurgen Klopp that Liverpool FC need to improve their squad depth.
The Reds have enjoyed a decent 2017-18 season despite concerns about their defence under the German coach.
Indeed, Klopp’s side have been regularly criticised for their slack defender, prompting the £75m club record signing of Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool FC started the weekend in third place in the Premier League table and just two points behind Manchester United.
The Reds have all but sealed their place in the Champions League last eight after a 5-0 win at Porto in the first leg of their last-16 clash.
Liverpool FC attacking trio Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were all on the score sheet in Portugal to continue their collective form.
However, former Chelsea FC winger Nevin warned Klopp that Liverpool FC can ill-afford for either Firmino, Mane or Salah to suffer an injury.
“What happens if one of Firmino, Mane or Salah gets injured?” Nevin told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“I am not sure there is anywhere near the quality behind to step up.
“Lallana is there. They are coming into the area where they are trying to get a second place and the top four, they are in the last past of the Champions League.
“You need a right good squad. For Liverpool, it is praying no-one gets injured.”
Liverpool FC are still waiting to win their first trophy under Klopp following the German’s appointment as Brendan Rodgers’ successor in 2015.
The Reds lost to Manchester City and Sevilla in the League Cup and Europa League finals in 2015.
