Jurgen Klopp has remained tight-lipped when asked about Simon Mignolet’s future at Liverpool FC.

The Belgium international started the 2017-18 season as Liverpool FC’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Mignolet started the Reds’ Premier League games, while Klopp drafted in Loris Karius for their Champions League fixtures.

However, the German coach made the decision to demote Mignolet to second-choice goalkeeper over the past month or so.

Karius has done reasonably well since his promotion to automatic starter to keep Mignolet on the bench.

Klopp revealed that the German shot stopper would retain his place for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Wednesday night.

Given Mignolet’s lack of playing time in recent months, speculation has been rife that the Belgium international could be set to leave Anfield at the end of the season.

Asked about the former Sunderland goalkeeper’s future at Liverpool FC ahead of their Champions League clash, Klopp refused to shed too much light on his plans for Mignolet.

“Nobody knows about the future, or I don’t know about the future,” Klopp told his pre-match media conference on Tuesday.

“In this business it is always the same – it says nothing about that.

“It’s not for me to think about these kind of things. I have to make a decision for tomorrow night and that’s all. No problem.”

Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.

The Reds haven’t had a world-class goalkeeper between the sticks since Brendan Rodgers made the surprise decision to offload Pepe Reina in 2013.
