Possible Liverpool FC transfer boost after Serie A club confirm 26-year-old will leave
Lazio have confirmed Liverpool FC target Stefan de Vrij will leave the Serie A outfit at the end of the season
Liverpool FC have been handed a possible transfer boost after Lazio confirmed Stefan de Vrij will leave at the end of the season.
The Netherlands international has been regularly linked with a move to the 18-time English champions over the past couple of campaigns.
De Vrij has been negotiating a potential contract extension with Lazio in recent months amid growing talk of interest in the Premier League.
The 26-year-old is set to become a free agent in the summer transfer window unless the Eagles can convince the centre-half to sign a new deal.
Liverpool FC signed Premier League rivals Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk in a club record £75m deal in the January transfer window.
Van Dijk is international team-mates with De Vrij, while Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is also a member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
And Liverpool FC have been handed a boost after Lazio sporting director Igli Tare confirmed that De Vrij will leave the Serie A club at the end of the season.
“It’s a decision made after many months,” Tare is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.
“There’s a limit to everything. We will say goodbye at the end of the season.”
The Reds made Van Dijk the most expensive defender in the world following his £75m move to Liverpool FC from Southampton last month.
Klopp’s side are in second place in the Premier League table and two points adrift of Manchester United.
