Jamie Redknapp: Why new Man United signing reminds me of Luis Suarez
The Liverpool legend likens new Man United signing Alexis Sanchez to Barcelona forward Luis Suarez
Jamie Redknapp has likened Manchester United signing Alexis Sanchez to Barcelona forward Luis Suarez.
The Red Devils signed Sanchez in a swap deal with Arsenal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move to the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window.
The Chile international made two assists in his Manchester United debut in a 4-0 win over League Two side Yeovil Town in the FA Cup fourth round.
Sanchez opened his Red Devils account with from the penalty spot in Manchester United’s 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
The 29-year-old scored 24 times in 38 games in his final full season at Arsenal to finish as the third-highest goal-scorer in the Premier League.
However, Sanchez will bring more than just goals to Manchester United given his pace and trickery.
Former Liverpool captain Redknapp has likened Sanchez to former Liverpool forward Suarez.
“When Sanchez is at his best he is on a mission, running with the ball and terrorising defenders,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
“Luis Suarez was similar — when you get on the ball and into those dangerous positions, you are more likely to be fouled.”
Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table and 13 points behind current leaders Manchester City.
The Red Devils will take on La Liga giants Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16 next month.
Sanchez was Manchester United’s only signing in the January transfer window as the South American finally ended speculation surrounding his future.
