Kevin Kilbane explains what Alexis Sanchez needs at Man United
The former Irish defender believes Alexis Sanchez is in desperate need of goals at Manchester United
Alexis Sanchez is in desperate need of goals to kick-start his Manchester United career, Kevin Kilbane says.
The Chile international completed a move to Old Trafford in a swap deal from Arsenal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan transfer to north London.
Sanchez made two assists in his Manchester United debut to help the Red Devils to secure a 4-0 win over Yeovil Town in the FA Cup third round.
The South American failed to get on the score sheet in Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley at the end of January.
While Sanchez scored from the penalty spot in a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford, he was muted in a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle last weekend.
The January signing missed a great chance to break the deadlock before Matt Ritchie’s winner but took an extra touch to miss out on the opportunity to score his first goal on the road.
Former Irish defender Kilbane believes Sanchez needs a goal to help the South American forward to find his momentum.
“Sanchez looks sharp,” Kilbane told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“It just hasn’t quite happened for him. He has had moments. He isn’t firing. He needs goals.”
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season in Mourinho’s first season in charge.
The Red Devils won the Europa League and the League Cup in the 2016-17 campaign.
Sanchez moved to Arsenal from La Liga giants Barcelona in the 2014 summer transfer window.
