Chris Sutton sends stern warning to Man United about top four
The former Chelsea FC striker believes Manchester United are in a real battle to finish in the top four
Chris Sutton has warned Jose Mourinho that Manchester United are in a real scrap for a top-four finish.
The Red Devils suffered a surprise 1-0 loss to Premier League strugglers Newcastle United at St James’ Park last weekend following Matt Richie’s second-half winner.
The Red Devils have now lost two of their last three Premier League games to allow Liverpool FC to move to within two points of second-placed Manchester United.
Defending champions Chelsea FC are a further point adrift of the Red Devils but could move level on points if the Blues beat Manchester United in their next Premier League game.
Indeed, if Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC win their next top-flight fixture, Manchester United will be relegated to fourth place.
Former Blues striker Sutton has admitted that he is really worried Manchester United could miss out on a top-four finish this term.
“Man United fans thought they’d push Man City this season,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live. “They are miles away from Man City.
“What worries me about Man United is they are in a scrap now.
“They are in second place but if Chelsea win, they have Man United next up after that. If Chelsea win that then they are level on points with Man United.”
“Man United may be out of the Champions League places before long.”
Manchester United signed Chile international Alexis Sanchez in a swap deal with Arsenal in the January transfer window as Henrikh Mkhitaryan completed a move to the north London club.
