Danny Higginbotham has backed Manchester United to finish in the Premier League’s top four this season.

The Red Devils have endured a difficult start to 2018 following two losses in their last three top-flight outings.

Manchester United lost 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur before a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United to cast doubt on their top-four aspirations.

The Red Devils started the weekend in second place but a mere three points ahead of fourth-placed Chelsea FC.

The Blues can move level on points with Jose Mourinho’s side with victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Mourinho led Manchester United to a sixth-placed finish last term, but the Red Devils did manage to win the Europa League and League Cup.

Former Manchester United defender Higginbotham is backing the Red Devils to wrap up a top-four finish this season.

“I think they will be in the top four,” Higginbotham told Sky Sports. “They have enough about them. They have enough goals in the team.”

Manchester United booked their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday night thanks to a 2-0 win at Huddersfield Town.

The Red Devils suffered a surprise 2-1 loss to Bristol City last month to end their League Cup challenge.
