The France international was substituted midway through the second half of Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley earlier this month.
Jose Mourinho placed Pogba on the bench for last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford as the Red Devils boss looked to send a clear message to his record signing.
Pogba has scored three goals and has made nine assists in 16 appearances in the Premier League this term, although the versatile midfielder missed a portion of the campaign due to a hamstring problem.
The Manchester United star has been regularly criticised for his below par performances since moving to Old Trafford despite winning the Europa League and the League Cup in his first season back at the club.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson believes Pogba has the talent to be a world-class player if the French midfielder reacts to his recent omission from the starting line-up.
“You look now for a reaction. Mourinho wants a reaction,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“If he gets a favourable one, Man United have one of the best players in Europe.”
Manchester United signed Pogba in a club record £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus in 2016 after the French midfielder moved to the Italian side in an £800,000 deal in 2012.
The Red Devils will take on La Liga giants Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16 later this month.
