Paul Scholes has challenged Romelu Lukaku to prove that he is capable of producing big moments at Manchester United.

The Red Devils signed the Belgium international in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Everton in the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old striker struggled to establish himself as Chelsea FC before his permanent move to Goodison Park in 2014.

Lukaku was a prolific goal-scorer at Everton but his move to Old Trafford was met with some skepticism given his past struggles at Chelsea FC.

The Belgian forward has netted 20 goals in 38 games in all competitions in the 2017-18 season but Lukaku has failed to score against their biggest rivals in the Premier League.

The former Anderlecht man was subdued in Manchester United’s goalless draw with Sevilla in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Wednesday night.

Former Manchester United midfielder Scholes demanded Lukaku prove that he is capable of producing big moments for Manchester United.

“He has to prove himself in the big games, there’s no doubt about that,” Scholes told BT Sport. “Twenty goals is a great return at this stage of the season but we need to see it in big games now.”

Lukaku netted 10 times in his opening nine games in a Manchester United shirt following his big-money move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are in second place in the Premier League table but a mere three points ahead of Chelsea FC.
