Mark Lawrenson has backed Manchester United to wrap up second place in the Premier League table.

The Red Devils have endured a difficult month or so following a string of inconsistent performances in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho’s side have lost their last two Premier League games on the road at Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils remained in second place in the Premier League table but two points ahead of Liverpool FC.

Manchester United started the weekend just three points ahead of fourth-placed Chelsea ahead of their meeting at Old Trafford.

Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing Manchester United to secure runners-up spot behind leaders Manchester City.

“I think you will finish in second place,” Lawrenson told BBC Radio 5 Live. “Man United could quite easily win the FA Cup.”

Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term.

The Red Devils won the Europa League and the League Cup in the 2016-17 season under Jose Mourinho.

Manchester United signed Alexis Sanchez in a swap deal from Arsenal back in the January transfer window.

The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
