Dennis Wise: What Man United need to see from Paul Pogba
The ex-Chelsea FC captain want Paul Pogba to become a real leader of the Manchester United team
Dennis Wise admits he wants to see Paul Pogba become a real leader in the Manchester United team.
The Red Devils missed Manchester United’s 2-0 win at Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup last weekend due to illness.
Pogba has struggled to impress in the Manchester United team over the past couple of months to prompt criticism of the record signing.
Indeed, the club record signing was substituted midway through the second half of Manchester United’s loss at Tottenham Hotspur and Neecastle United.
Pogba was omitted from the Manchester United team that beat the Terriers in the Premier League two weeks ago to raise questions about his future.
The 24-year-old has been unable to convince some Manchester United supporters about his talent since his £89m move from Serie A giants Juventus.
Former Chelsea FC captain Wise admitted that he wants to see Pogba become a “real bloke” capable of leading the Manchester United team.
“He gives this impression that he is so relaxed but you are thinking ‘get someone by the scruff of the neck, pull your team-mates over, be a leader and don’t be a nice tippy-tappy player’,” Wise told Sky Sports.
“I want him to grow as an individual and turn into a real bloke who pulls the team about. I don’t think he does that and I think that’s what he is missing. You don’t need to be dragged off or sat down. His confidence will go.
“You need to show him you are the leader, get in there and show me, I believe in you. He is just suffering. He is a top player.”
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term in Pogba’s first season back at Old Trafford.
The French midfielder won the Europa League and the FA Cup in the 2016-17 season.
Manchester United booked their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals thanks to a 2-0 win at Huddersfield Town last weekend.
