Dennis Wise: Paul Pogba lacks the confidence to dominate Man United
The Chelsea FC legend wants to see Paul Pogba dominate games for Manchester United
Dennis Wise believes Paul Pogba doesn’t have the confidence to dominate Manchester United’s games.
The France international has been criticised for his below-par performances over the past couple of months in Jose Mourinho’s team.
The Manchester United boss dragged off Pogba in the second half of their losses at Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur over the past month.
The 24-year-old’s future has been a source of debate in recent weeks given his apparent fallout with the Portuguese coach over his best position in the Red Devils team.
Pogba has been utilised as part of a two-man midfield alongside summer signing Nemanja Matic but has struggled to fulfill his defensive duties.
The Red Devils star has been linked with a potential move to La Liga giants Real Madrid despite returning to Old Trafford little over 18 months ago.
Former Chelsea FC captain Wise believes Pogba needs to grow into a dominant midfielder.
“He is lacking confidence. There is a lot on his shoulders,” Wise told Sky Sports.
“He might be a baby [in terms of age] but you want to see him get the ball and dominate games. He is capable of doing it. I just don’t think he has, whether it’s where he is playing or the positions he is in.”
Manchester United sold Pogba in an £800,000 deal to Serie A giants Juventus in the 2012 summer transfer window under Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Red Devils finished in sixth spot in Pogba’s first season back at the Old Trafford outfit.
Manchester United will welcome defending Premier League champions Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on Sunday.
