Paul Scholes pinpoints how Alexis Sanchez needs to improve at Man United
The Man United legend believes Alexis Sanchez needs to improve his awareness when playing in a central role in Jose Mourinho's team
Paul Scholes believes Alexis Sanchez needs to improve his performances when playing in a central role in the Manchester United team.
The Red Devils signed the Chile international in a swap deal in the January transfer window as Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan moved to Arsenal as part of the same deal.
Sanchez established himself as one of the Premier League’s best players during three and a half seasons at The Emirates before the South American’s move to Old Trafford.
The 29-year-old has scored one goal and has made two assists in five appearances in all competitions since his January move.
The former Barcelona forward has struggled to make a big impact at Manchester United following a run of two losses in their last three Premier League games.
While Scholes is a big admirer of the South American forward, the former Manchester United midfielder identified one area where Sanchez needs to improve.
“He’s got great ability, great feet,” Scholes told BT Sport.
“He’s great on the ball and can beat a man. He makes really intelligent runs inside.
“As soon as he comes into the middle of the park he struggles – I don’t think he’s aware of what’s around him.”
Sanchez scored 24 times in 38 games in the Premier League last season during his final campaign at Arsenal.
The Chile international will be hoping to feature against Sevilla in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Wednesday night.
Manchester United finished in sixth spot in the table last term but the Red Devils won the Europa League and the League Cup.
