Graeme Souness names the signing Man United must make this summer
Graeme Souness explains why he wants to see Man United sign a player such as Christian Eriksen this summer
Graeme Souness believes that Manchester United need to sign a playmaker similar to Christian Eriksen to get the balance of their midfield right.
The Red Devils have already been very busy in the transfer market since Jose Mourinho’s appointment at Old Trafford back in the summer of 2016.
Manchester United have splashed the cash on signing the likes of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic, before they also spent big on landing Alexis Sanches from Arsenal last month.
However, former Liverpool FC star Souness feels that the Red Devils are in need of a playmaker type player in midfield.
Writing in his column for the Sunday Times, Souness said: “It’s paramount for Mourinho that he gets his midfield right.
“United need a better mix there to keep the ball better, make them a better watch and more threatening, with better quality into their strikers. They need a craftsman such as Christian Eriksen at Tottenham.”
Manchester United are currently preparing for their FA Cup fifth-round clash against Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.
Mourinho led Manchester United to Europa League and League Cup glory last season in his first campaign in charge, despite the disappointment of a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League.
The Red Devils will take on Spanish side Sevilla for a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League later this month.
Manchester United have not won the Premier League since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.
