Ian Wright has claimed that Paul Pogba needs to be “loved” at Manchester United and believes that the midfielder’s confidence has taken a knock.

The French midfielder has come in for criticism in recent weeks for failing to produce consistent form for Jose Mourinho’s men.

Pogba missed last weekend’s FA Cup win over Huddersfield Town due to illness but he will be hoping to play a more regular role in the team in the coming weeks and months.

The 24-year-old joined Manchester United from Juventus for a then world record transfer fee and he has been a regular fixture in the team since then.

And Arsenal legend Wright simply thinks that the midfielder has been struggling for confidence in recent weeks under Mourinho at Old Trafford.

Speaking on The Debate on Sky Sports on Tuesday night, Wright said: “He is somebody that should be able to get the team together and bring the team and drive them through.

“His confidence has taken a bit of a knock. He needs to be loved, playing, and playing with freedom.”

Pogba will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action on Sunday with a crunch clash against Chelsea FC at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are currently in second place in the Premier League table as they look to finish as high as possible.

The Red Devils finished sixth and won both the Europa League and League Cup last season.
