Juan Mata insists that he is loving life at Manchester United after his contract was extended for a further year
Juan Mata has insisted that he is loving life under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
The Spanish playmaker extended his contract with the Red Devils on Tuesday to keep him at the Old Trafford club until the summer of 2019.
Mata has played an important role in the team under Mourinho despite many questioning his future after the Portuguese coach’s arrival at the club back in the summer of 2016.
And the former Chelsea FC star has revealed his delight at putting pen to paper on a new contract with the Red Devils this week.
Speaking to Manchester United’s website, Mata said: “I still feel very happy and very proud to be part of this club,” said the Reds’ no.8. “I think everyone that belongs to Manchester United should feel privileged, and that’s how I feel.
“I’m happy with everyone at the club and, obviously, with the manager and my team-mates. Once you are part of this club, your football career is not the same; it changes, because this is one of the biggest clubs in football history.
“Every day I try to tell myself how lucky and how privileged I am, try to take advantage of every single training session, and try to see how important it is to be a Manchester United player.”
Mata is a firm favourite amongst Red Devils supporters and he has scored 39 goals for the Red Devils in all competitions so far.
The Spanish midfielder will be hoping to feature for the Red Devils when they return to Premier League action on Saturday with a home clash against Huddersfield Town.
The Red Devils will take on Spanish side Sevilla in the last 16 of the Champions League later this month as they look to try and progress through to the quarter-finals of the competition.
Manchester United finished sixth but won both the Europa League and the League Cup last term under Mourinho.
