Jose Mourinho delivers update on Paul Pogba after Man United’s 1-0 loss at Newcastle
Jose Mourinho insists that Paul Pogba did not suffer an injury during Manchester United's 1-0 loss to Newcastle United
Jose Mourinho has insisted that Paul Pogba was not suffering from any injury during Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon at St James’ Park.
The French midfielder appeared to be limping at times in the first half at St James’ Park but he remained on the pitch beyond half-time.
Pogba was at fault in the build-up to Newcastle United’s goal, with Matt Ritchie netting for the home side in the 65th minute on Tyneside.
The midfielder was immediately substituted after Manchester United conceded against the Magpies.
It had been thought by some that Pogba was suffering from an injury problem.
However, Mourinho confirmed after the game that there was no problem for the French midfielder.
Asked if Pogba was injured, Mourinho replied on Sky Sports: “No, no problems.”
The defeat left Manchester United in second place in the Premier League table.
And Mourinho admitted that the home side deserved their three points following the impressive way in which they performed against his side.
Mourinho added: “They fought like animals – I hope they take that as a compliment. The gods of football were on their side. It wasn’t going to happen for us today. Newcastle gave what they have and what they don’t have, that’s a beautiful thing in football.
“They fought for their point, a point is what they had in mind. We made a defensive mistake and when they are in front they had only one thing in mind and gave their lives to keep a clean sheet.”
Manchester United will return to Premier League action next weekend when they take on Huddersfield Town in the fifth round of the FA Cup away from home.
