Gary Neville’s message to Marcus Rashford ahead of Man United v Chelsea
Gary Neville gives his thoughts on Marcus Rashford's situation ahead of Man United v Chelsea
Gary Neville has insisted that he is not worried about Marcus Rashford’s long-term future at Manchester United.
The England striker has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Old Trafford in recent weeks amid fresh competition from the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial for a starting spot in Jose Mourinho’s side.
Rashford is widely considered to be one of English football’s brightest young talents, and he has caught the eye since breaking onto the scene when Louis van Gaal was still in charge at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old will be hoping to start for Manchester United when the Red Devils host Chelsea FC in their crunch Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
And former Manchester United defender Neville has insisted that he is not concerned about Rashford’s long-term future at the club.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville said: “No [it’s not a concern]. I think he’s had a lot of playing time this season, he’s had a lot of minutes on the pitch and up until a few games ago had taken part in every match.
“When you’re a young player coming into the team, ultimately you’re not all of a sudden going to play every game for the rest of your career….
“If I thought he wasn’t in the manager’s plans, or wasn’t in the frame or in favour, I’d be worried then, but I think Jose Mourinho has proven that he likes Marcus Rashford.”
Manchester United, who are second in the table, head into Sunday’s game on the back of their goalless draw with Sevilla in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Chelsea, meanwhile, warmed up for their trip to Old Trafford by playing out a 1-1 draw with FC Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday.
