Ex-forward questions whether key Man United star is up to the task
Pat Nevin questions Paul Pogba's mentality following his stuttering form for Manchester United this season
Pat Nevin has questioned whether Paul Pogba has the correct mentality to perform consistently at the top level at Manchester United.
The French midfielder has been criticised for his performances for the Red Devils in recent weeks after struggling to produce consistent form for Jose Mourinho’s men.
Pogba was immediately substituted after Manchester United conceded in the second half of their 1-0 Premier League defeat by Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday.
It seems that the 24-year-old is still trying to find his best position in midfield following his return to the Red Devils from Juventus back in the summer of 2016.
And former Chelsea FC star Nevin admits that he is not convinced that the midfielder has what it takes to live up to his potential at Old Trafford.
Speaking to Irish radio station Newstalk, Nevin said: “He has the engine to do it, he has the physique to do it, he has the skill to do it. He has it all. But is his head right to do it?
“That’s it – I don’t know if it’s any more than that. You know when you watch football who is giving 100 per cent, who is a bit short and who is a good distance short. He was a good distance short [against Newcastle].”
Pogba will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils take on Huddersfield Town in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday evening.
The Red Devils are currently in second place in the Premier League table but just two points ahead of third-placed Liverpool FC as the race for Champions League qualification tightens up.
