Ryan Giggs sends message to Man United supporters about Marcus Rashford
Ryan Giggs discusses Marcus Rashford's situation at Manchester United this season
Ryan Giggs had admitted that Marcus Rashford has a fight on his hands in trying to hold down a regular spot in the Manchester United starting line-up.
The 20-year-old has struggled to be a regular under Jose Mourinho this season and it seems like the competition for a spot in the starting line-up has intensified further following the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal last month.
Rashford has scored four goals and made five assists in the Premier League so far this season but has only started 13 top-flight games for the Red Devils.
Manchester United legend Giggs believes that the main issue for Rashford is that his best position is as a striker and that the England star is unlikely to get in the team ahead of summer signing Romelu Lukaku.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Giggs said: “The main problem for Rashford is his best position is as a striker and it doesn’t look as though he’s going to get in ahead of Lukaku.
“He was very good in that position against Yeovil but ultimately he’s not going to get as many goals over a season as Lukaku.
“However, I can’t see Rashford looking at his future at the moment.
“He’ll get enough games across the four competitions, but the issues are when he isn’t involved in the big games.”
Rashford will be hoping to be involved for the Red Devils when they return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a trip to Newcastle United.
The Red Devils are currently in second place in the Premier League table and 13 points behind leaders Manchester City.
Manchester United will take on Spanish side Sevilla in the Champions League last 16 later this month.
