Jose Mourinho insisted that he was happy with Alexis Sanchez’s performance for Manchester United despite the Red Devils’ 2-0 loss to Tottenham on Wednesday night.

The 29-year-old attacker made his first Premier League appearance for the Red Devils since completing his move to Old Trafford from Arsenal last week but was unable to prevent Manchester United from slipping to a disappointing loss.

Sanchez was named as the man of the match on his Manchester United debut against Yeovil Town last week and he put in another hard-working performance for the Red Devils against Spurs at Wembley.

And Mourinho was quick to give his analysis of Sanchez’s display after Manchester United’s disappointing defeat by Spurs at Wembley.

Speaking at his post-match news conference, Mourinho said of Sanchez: “He worked hard, but again the transformation the game had, the game was not for him.

“In the second half, I tried to give him a position where he could be closer to [Romelu] Lukaku but then he felt the need to drop too much to organise.

“But he gave everything, good effort and this is a good feeling for me to know that the player is available with that spirit.”

Sanchez will be hoping to help Manchester United return to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday when they host Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford in their next game.

Wednesday night’s loss left the Red Devils in second place in the Premier League table but a staggering 15 points behind leaders Manchester City.

Manchester United will be aiming to progress in the Champions League when they take on Spanish side Sevilla in the last 16 this month.
