Rio Ferdinand raves about Man United star’s ‘unreal’ display at Sevilla
Rio Ferdinand heaps praise on David De Gea following Man United's 0-0 draw with Sevilla in the Champions League
Rio Ferdinand heaped praise on David De Gea after the Spanish goalkeeper’s brilliant performance in Manchester United’s goalless draw with Sevilla in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The game was a largely uninspiring affair in the first half but De Gea sprung into life to produce a brilliant save to deny Luis Muriel’s header from close range.
De Gea’s stop was the main talking point from the first half as the Spaniard helped Manchester United to keep a clean sheet in Spain.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand was clearly impressed with what he saw from De Gea in Sevilla on Wednesday night.
Speaking during BT Sport’s coverage of the game, Ferdinand said: “It [the save] was unreal.
“He’s been doing this for a couple of years now.
“I celebrated it like it was a goal for Man United. He waits and reacts.
“He saved Manchester United there and countless times he’s done that.”
The result leaves the tie finely poised ahead of the return leg at Old Trafford on 13 March.
Manchester United will now switch their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their crunch clash against Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils are currently in second place in the Premier League table as they look to try and at least finish in the top four in Jose Mourinho’s second season at the club.
Manchester United ended up in sixth place in the Premier League table last season.
