Man United to rival Tottenham to bring top 28-year-old back to England – report
Manchester United will battle it out with Tottenham Hotspur to sign Gareth Bale in the summer, according to a report in Spain
Manchester United are set to rival Tottenham Hotspur to sign Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale at the end of the season, according to a report in Spain.
Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, as quoted by the Daily Mail, is reporting that Manchester United are on red alert with Bale’s future in Madrid up in the air.
The same article states that Bale and Karim Benzema have both been informed that they will be surplus to requirements at the end of the 2017-18 season.
According to the same story, Manchester United are keen on signing the 28-year-old forward in the summer transfer window to add more creativity and pace to Jose Mourinho’s side.
However, the report goes on to reveal that Tottenham will also look to bring Bale back to the north London club having sold the Welsh star to Real Madrid in a then world record £85.3m deal in 2013.
Bale has won the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey and three Champions League crowns during three and a half seasons at Real Madrid.
But the 2013 PFA player of the year has struggled with a string of injury problems over the past couple of campaigns.
Bale has netted 76 times in 172 appearances in all competitions.
