Guillem Balague updates Man United fans on Cristiano Ronaldo rumours
Manchester United are not interested in completing a deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid, says Guillem Balague
Manchester United are not interested in completing a deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid, according to Guillem Balague.
The Portugal international’s future has been a source of speculation in recent months amid reports that he is unhappy in Spain and wants to leave.
Manchester United have inevitably been touted as a possible destination for the 33-year-old attacker as they were the club who opted to sell him to Real Madrid for a then world record transfer fee back in 2009.
However, Spanish football expert Balague has insisted that Manchester United are not seriously in the running to secure a deal to re-sign Ronaldo as things stand.
Balague told Sky Sports: “Cristiano wants Real to pay €50m net which they won’t. Nobody else will.
“The link to Manchester United is not going far, they do not want him. But, they don’t want to say they’re not interested. They don’t want to be seen as a club not interested in buying the best players in the world.
“In any case, they don’t see this as a feasible financial or sporting deal and don’t think they can get enough from it.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United are currently preparing for their Premier League clash against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils beat Huddersfield 2-0 at Old Trafford last weekend to leave them in second place in the Premier League table and 13 points behind leaders Manchester City.
Manchester United finished sixth in the top flight last term and won both the Europa League and League Cup in Jose Mourinho’s first campaign in charge at Old Trafford.
Mourinho’s men will take on Spanish side Sevilla in the last 16 of the Champions League later this month.
