Olivier Dacourt sends warning to 26-year-old Ligue 1 star about Man United transfer
The ex-Leeds midfielder sends a warning to Jean Seri about a reported move to Manchester United in the summer
Olivier Dacourt has warned Jean Seri to consider whether he will get game time at Manchester United before agreeing to a move to Old Trafford.
The Nice midfielder was close to a move to La Liga giants Barcelona in the summer transfer window but a deal failed to materialise.
Seri was also linked with Premier League duo Arsenal and Liverpool FC but the versatile midfielder ultimately remained at the Ligue 1 side.
The 26-year-old’s performances have dipped in the current campaign following a return of one goal and three assists in 18 games in the 2017-18 season.
The Ivory Coast international was touted with a potential move to Premier League strugglers Everton in the January transfer window.
However, Seri is now being linked with Premier League giants Manchester United as Jose Mourinho looks to improve his midfield options at the end of the campaign.
Manchester City signed Bernardo Silva from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco last summer after the playmaker helped the French club to win the Ligue 1 title last term.
Former Leeds United midfielder Dacourt warned Seri about the perils of top Ligue 1 players moving to the Premier League and struggling to get regular top-flight action.
“He almost went to Barcelona, but he did not leave,” Dacourt told bWIN.
“The problem with those quality players is that they are very good in major French clubs but now we are talking about big foreign clubs. Because of the competition in the big foreign clubs, it is necessary to see how they behave, personality is not enough.
“The point is not to go to the big club, it’s to play there. A good example is Bernardo Silva. Last year he had an extraordinary season with Monaco – at Manchester City he has more trouble.”
Seri has scored 11 times in 92 games in all competitions for Nice over the past three seasons.
