Jose Mourinho warned Marcus Rashford will quit Man United
The Chelsea FC legend believes Marcus Rashford could quit Manchester United unless Jose Mourinho gives the striker a chance
Marcus Rashford will quit Manchester United unless Jose Mourinho gives the England striker a chance, Dennis Wise has warned.
The England international has found his first-team opportunities limited in the current campaign following the arrival of Romelu Lukaku in a £75m deal from Everton.
Rashford started the season as first-choice on the left wing but France international Anthony Martial has come into favour in recent months.
The 20-year-old’s route to the Manchester United starting line-up is further blocked after Alexis Sanchez moved to the Red Devils in a swap deal from Arsenal in the January transfer window.
The Manchester United youth graduate has scored four goals and has made five assists in 13 starts and 12 substitute appearances in the Premier League this term.
Rashford’s place in England’s World Cup squad could be in doubt given his lack of regular first-team football in the current campaign.
Former Chelsea FC captain Wise warned Mourinho that Rashford will grow impatient and consider a transfer if the England star isn’t given a chance to impress in the Manchester United.’
“I think at some stage, if he doesn’t get regular football, that will further down the line, be a consideration for him,” Wise told The Debate on Sky Sports.
“There’s some quality players they’ve brought in.
“He’s got to try and get himself in front of Lukaku, I’m not sure he will at the moment.
“And you’ve got Sanchez, who is another [top player] he’s brought in.
“It’s also about what position he plays. Where will Jose fit him in? Most of the time, he’s played him out wide.
“It’s not his main position but he’ll go there because he wants to play.
“When he gets opportunities, he must take them, otherwise he’ll be sat there for a while.
“I’d like to see him playing and scoring goals.”
Louis van Gaal handed Rashford his Manchester United debut in 2015 and he scored twice on his Premier League debut in a 3-2 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford.
