Man United want to sign 23-year-old Real Madrid in bargain transfer – report
Man United are monitoring Real Madrid outcast Mateo Kovacic ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports
Manchester United are interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic in a bargain deal in the summer, according to a report in Spain.
Don Balon, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that the Croatia international has emerged as a target for Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.
The same article states that Manchester United have ended their interest in Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto and Jose Mourinho is set to make a renewed effort to sign Kovacic.
The Spanish media outlet claims that the Red Devils are monitoring the 23-year-old’s situation at Real Madrid as the Croatian midfielder remains out of favour under Zinedine Zidane.
The Austrian-born star has only made 10 appearances in all competitions this season despite Real Madrid’s well-documented struggles in La Liga.
Kovacic moved to Real Madrid from Serie A giants Inter Milan in 2015 following eight goals in 97 appearances in all competitions during three seasons at San Siro.
Mourinho is eager to improve his midfield options ahead of the 2018-19 season given Michael Carrick is set to retire at the end of the current campaign.
Marouane Fellaini is set to become a free agent in the summer unless the Belgium international agrees to a new deal with the Red Devils.
