Man United ready to rival Liverpool FC for top 26-year-old defender – report
Manchester United are monitoring Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij, who is wanted by Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC, according to reports
Manchester United are prepared to rival Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC for Stefan de Vrij’s signature in the summer, according to a report in Italy.
Il Messaggero, as quoted by The Sun, is reporting that the Red Devils are interested in signing the Dutch centre-half at the end of the 2017-18 season.
The same article states that Manchester United will face competition for the Netherlands international given interest from their Premier League rivals Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC.
According to the same story, De Vrij will be out of contract at the end of the season but the centre-half is expected to sign a new deal with Lazio to ensure the Serie A giants get a financial return should the coveted defender leave in the summer.
De Vrij has scored three goals in 22 games in the Serie A this season to earn interest from the Premier League given the lack of top centre-halves currently available in European football.
His Netherlands team-mate Daley Blind is currently at Old Trafford but has been largely out of favour under Jose Mourinho this season.
De Vrij could link up with his compatriot Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool FC after the centre-half’s world record move to Anfield last month.
