Mourinho told Man United need to make top signing to help Pogba
Former Irish defender Kenny Cunningham believes Manchester United need a new midfielder to help out Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba
Manchester United need to sign a top midfielder in the summer to help out Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba, according to Kenny Cunningham.
The Red Devils midfielder has been criticised in recent weeks for a number of subdued performances from the France international.
Jose Mourinho substituted Pogba during a 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley last month after the pair were involved in a heated debate on the touchline.
Pogba was left out of the Manchester United starting line-up for their next Premier League game when the Red Devils eased to a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford.
While the 25-year-old was restored to the Manchester United starting line-up for the trip to Newcastle United, Pogba was withdrawn after his role in Matt Ritchie’s winner.
Mourinho has been using Pogba alongside Matic as a midfielder pair but the Manchester United duo have been overrun in the middle of the park.
Former Irish defender Cunningham believes Manchester United need to sign another top midfielder to help out Pogba.
“Going forward, the answer for Manchester United is to find another player to operate in the central midfield area,” Cunningham told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“That will be a big factor in solving the [Paul Pogba] problem.”
Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table but only two points ahead of Liverpool FC in third spot.
