Jose Mourinho states his prediction for Newcastle v Man United
Jose Mourinho looks ahead to Man United's trip to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday
Jose Mourinho has admitted that he is desperate to turn around his poor record at St James’ Park when Manchester United travel to Newcastle on Sunday.
The Red Devils head into the game looking to make it back to back wins in the top flight after their 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town last weekend.
Manchester United are still a long way off catching Manchester City in the race for the title but Mourinho will be keen for his side to show progress this season as they bid to at least finish in the top four.
Mourinho has never won a game at St James’ Park before and the Portuguese coach has warned his side to prepare for a stern test against Rafael Benitez’s men this weekend.
Speaking at his news conference at Carrington on Friday afternoon, Mourinho said: “Honestly I’ve always felt beautiful matches but difficult matches [there]. I like the stadium, I like the atmosphere. They are a good, enthusiastic crowd.
“I like to go there but I couldn’t win. I lost and I drew a few times – I hope the result on Sunday is different.
“But [Rafael] Benitez knows how to get points, so I think it’s going to be difficult.”
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge.
However, they did enjoy success in the cup competitions as they won both the Europa League and League Cup under the Portuguese coach.
Manchester United will take on Spanish side Sevilla in the last 16 of the Champions League later this month.
