Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Rochdale v Tottenham
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Tottenham to book their place in the sixth round of the FA Cup by beating Rochdale
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Tottenham Hotspur to book their place in the sixth round of the FA Cup with a comfortable 2-0 win over Rochdale on Sunday.
The Lilywhites head into the game fresh from having come from two goals down to secure an impressive 2-2 draw with Juventus in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday night.
That result has handed the north London side the initiative in the tie, and Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping that the two away goals will be enough to see them through to the quarter-finals.
Much has been made of Tottenham’s failure to win a major trophy under Pochettino and the Argentine will be eyeing the FA Cup as a big chance to put that right.
Spurs travel to League One Rochdale on Sunday afternoon and former Liverpool FC star Lawrenson is not expecting them to have any problems in getting through.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “Rochdale got through to the fifth round by drawing at Millwall and then beating them at home on what looked like a beach.
“It is just something Tottenham will have to deal with. No doubt Mauricio Pochettino will change his team around after they played in the Champions League earlier this week.
“Keith Hill has been at Rochdale for a long, long time. They are not doing particularly well in the league but this will be a massive day for them. However, I think Tottenham, whatever team they select, will have too much for them.”
Tottenham finished in second place in the Premier League table but they are facing a battle in trying to get back into the top four this term.
Spurs are currently fifth in the table and just one point behind fourth-placed Chelsea FC.
