Paul Scholes raves about David De Gea’s performance in Man United v Sevilla
The Man United legend hails David De Gea as the best goalkeeper in the world after his performance at Sevilla
Paul Scholes hailed David De Gea as the best goalkeeper in the world following his performance in Manchester United’s goalless stalemate at Sevilla on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils struggled to make an impression on the first leg in Spain as De Gea was kept occupied throughout the 90 minutes at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
The Spain international had to be alert in the first half to stop Steven N’Zonzi’s after Gabriel Mercado bicycle kicked the ball into the Manchester United penalty area.
He produced the moment of the match when he managed to push Luis Muriel’s header wide from close range with a reaction save on the stroke of half-time.
De Gea finished the goalless stalemate with eight saves to ensure Manchester United left Sevilla with a positive result ahead of the return leg at Old Trafford Tuesday 14 March.
Former Manchester United midfielder Scholes hailed De Gea as the world’s best goalkeeper following his outstanding performance.
“He’s the best around, there’s no doubt about that,” Scholes told BT Sport.
“He must have saved the team so many points this season. He’s probably been by far and away the player of the season again.”
Manchester United are looking to win the Champions League for the first time since 2008 when the Red Devils beat Chelsea FC on penalties in Moscow.
The Red Devils signed De Gea in a £17m deal from Atletico Madrid in the 2011 summer transfer window.
