Ian Wright ‘disgusted’ with Man United’s performance at Sevilla
The Arsenal legend slams Manchester United's 'sterile' performance at Sevilla on Wednesday night
Ian Wright admitted he would be disgusted if he was a Manchester United supporter following the Red Devils’ tepid performance in a goalless draw at Sevilla.
The Premier League side offered very little in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash despite being favourites to progress to the last eight.
De Gea was Manchester United’s best player in a busy evening for the Spain international as Sevilla pushed for a winner.
The Spanish shot stopper had to be alert to push Steven N’Zonzi’s header over the crossbar before the 27-year-old produced the moment of the match with a staggering close-range stop to deny Luis Muriel.
Sevilla registered an incredible 25 attempts on De Gea’s goal and finished with 56 per cent possession as Jose Mourinho’s men spent most of the first leg camped inside their own half.
De Gea made eight saves to ensure the Red Devils left Old Trafford with a credible result ahead of the return leg on Tuesday 13 March.
Former Arsenal striker Wright didn’t hold back in his scathing assessment of Manchester United’s performance in Sevilla.
“If you look at the players they have. Rashford, Martial, Sanchez, Lukaku being backed up by Pogba – wouldn’t that frighten you?” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“United should be doing better with the players got they’ve got. I’m baffled with the sterile football. If I was a United fan I would be disgusted.”
Manchester United are looking to win the Champions League for the first time since 2008.
The Red Devils will welcome Chelsea FC to Old Trafford in their next Premier League game on Sunday.
