Charlie Nicholas is backing Sevilla to claim a 2-1 win over Manchester United in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils head into the game fresh from having secured their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Jose Mourinho will be keen for his side to progress in Europe because of the Red Devils’ stuttering form in the Premier League this season.

Manchester United have lost two of their last three Premier League games to leave them in second place and 16 points behind leaders Manchester City.

Mourinho brought European success back to Old Trafford last season when he guided the Red Devils to Europa League glory in his first campaign in charge.

However, former Arsenal star Nicholas is tipping the Spanish side to claim a 2-1 win in the first leg of this tie.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Nicholas said: “I see everybody is panicking about injuries at Manchester United.

“Did Jose Mourinho not say everyone should stop complaining about injuries? So, I was chuckling when he reeled off his list in his press conference.

“Will he bring Paul Pogba back in? Yes, get him back in there.

“He loves delivering in the spotlight with his hairstyles and flicks. He doesn’t do it near enough and Jose does not appreciate that side of a player’s game, but the player Sevilla will be worried about most is Paul Pogba.

“I said at the time Alexis Sanchez came in ‘What disruptions will this cause?’. Marcus Rashford has been bombed out, Anthony Martial has been switched to the right and stopped scoring and Pogba has fallen out of the team.

“The positive for United is Sevilla are a bag of Revels. They’re fifth in La Liga but their goal difference is negative so that tells you everything about their defence, but they can hurt you on their day in the hostile Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.”

Manchester United won both the Europa League and League Cup in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge at Old Trafford last season.

The Red Devils, however, were in poor form in the Premier League as they ended up in sixth place in the top flight table.
