Nemanja Matic has warned his Manchester United team-mates that they are in for a stern test of their Champions League credentials when they travel to Sevilla on Wednesday night.

Jose Mourinho’s men are currently preparing for the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash against the La Liga side as they look to try and progress in Europe’s elite club competition.

The Red Devils warmed up for the crunch clash by securing a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday night.

And Serbian midfielder Matic has warned his Manchester United team-mates that they will have to be at their best if they want to claim a positive result in Spain in midweek.

Speaking to Manchester United’s website ahead of the game, Matic said: “It was important to get the win [at Huddersfield] for our confidence.

“We have the Champions League now against against a very good side.

“It was important for us and we have to recover well because this game was very hard for us and we have to give our best, and play good football, if we are going to win [in midweek].”

The Red Devils are currently in second place in the Premier League table but they have been in stuttering form in recent weeks.

Mourinho’s men have lost two of their last three Premier League games in the top flight to leave them just two points ahead of third-placed Liverpool FC.

Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term and won both the League Cup and Europa League in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge at the club.
