Michael Owen is backing Liverpool FC to secure Jurgen Klopp’s 50th Premier League win at Southampton on Sunday evening.

The Reds will make the long trip to the south coast looking to return to winning ways following a frustrating 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Liverpool FC have secured 13 points from their last six Premier League outings to hoist themselves up to third place in the Premier League table.

Klopp signed Virgil van Dijk in a club record £75m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton in the January transfer window.

The world’s most expensive defender will return to his former club with the Netherlands international still waiting to secure his first clean sheet since his move to Anfield.

Southampton secured a vital 3-2 win against relegation rivals West Brom at The Hawthorns last weekend to secure a much-needed three points for the Saints.

Former Reds striker Owen is backing Liverpool FC to beat Southampton with help from their January signing on Sunday evening.

“Congratulations to Mo Salah on reaching 20 goals in his debut season in the Premier League with the promise of many more to come,” Owen told BetVictor.

“Virgil van Dijk returns to St Mary’s for the first time following his big-money January move and is likely to start.

“Liverpool have won both PL games he has not played in since he became eligible for the Reds, however, and not won either game he has started.

“Saints begin the weekend just two points above the relegation places despite winning at the Hawthorns on Saturday. Sadio Mane is another former Southampton player and the striker has scored six goals in his last five games at St Mary’s.

“I expect to see goals with Liverpool getting more than their fair share and giving Jurgen Klopp his 50th PL win in his 95th game in charge of the Reds.”

Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-season absence.

The Reds are sitting two points clear of Tottenham Hotspur, who are in fifth spot in the top flight.
